The Association, which has its seat in the Railwayman Culture Centre building in Krakow at ul. św. Filipa 6, was established on December 2, 1992 to promote and develop culture among railwaymen and their families and to enrich the cultural offer for the residents of Krakow and tourists visiting our city. KTK is a continuation of the cultural and educational community work conducted by the "Railway Families" over 100 years ago. It draws on the rich experience of organized cultural activities of railwaymen from Krakow and the region (often with the help of railway union organizations), initially grouped around the Community Centre and Club, and since 1973 - the Railwayman Culture Centre in Krakow.

The most important achievement of the first period of KTK's operation was ensuring the continuation of the Railway Culture Centre, which ceased to be financed by PKP in 1996. Maintaining artistic groups in the DKK became possible thanks to the statutory economic activity conducted by KTK, as well as thanks to the help of the Federation of Railway Trade Unions, which lent the Association the building at ul. św. Filipa 6 to implement its statutory goals.

In 2017, the KTK celebrated the 25th anniversary of its activity, the essence of which was and is the preservation and development of the artistic achievements of previous generations of railwaymen in the Railwaymen's Cultural Centre in Kraków, which it runs. During the 25 years of its operation, many artistic events took place, which have become a permanent part of the cultural calendar of Kraków and have also become the showcase of the Railwaymen's Cultural Centre not only in Kraków, but also in the whole of Poland. The most successful achievements include the National Artistic Presentations of Railwaymen – writers, poets, painters, sculptors, photographers, organized for fourteen years, as well as the artistic activities of the Railway Wind Orchestra, the "Fantazja" Dance Club, the "Pro Arte" Chamber Ensemble, the "KMITA" Swing Section, the "Osiem Sióstr" Folkloristic Ensemble, as well as the implementation of the Senior Activation Project for Railwaymen "PASuK".

These achievements would not have been possible without the support of railway workplaces and the trade unions operating within them, led by the Federation of Railway Workers’ Trade Unions, cooperation with the Association for the Promotion of Sports, Tourism and Culture “Kolejarz” in Warsaw and the involvement of our fellow members of the Association.

The Railway Culture Society is a non-governmental organization registered in the National Court Register and pursuing public benefit goals consisting primarily in the promotion of culture. As an independent association, the KTK combines cultural activity with economic activity, which allows for financing of statutory activities. In order to obtain financial resources for this purpose, the KTK provides the following services: catering - in the form of running the "Jadłodajnia u Kolejarzy" (Railwayman's Restaurant), located in the building at ul. św. Filipa 6 in Krakow, accommodation - based on the database of guest rooms in this building, advertising - searching for advertisers and managing boards and places for advertising media, other services - performed on behalf of contractors. In addition, the KTK, in agreement with the owner of the building, the Railway Culture House, the Federation of Trade Unions of PKP Employees - deals with its administration and carries out current renovations to ensure an appropriate standard of its premises for people using the cultural offer of the KTK.

Thanks to these activities, it is possible to continue the tradition of our predecessors and finance the development of various forms of cultural activity, which is the main goal of the Railway Culture Society over the 25 years of its existence.
